NOSE SURGERY

Some familiar features appear successively
due to heredity, but the nasal structure, like
the hump or bony tumors, is manifested during adolescence. Traumatisms during childhood often produce an alteration of the growth and facial development, compromising the face’s harmony and dental occlusion.

These nasal and facial alterations manifest on both sexes, but women most frequently consult and go to a surgery for these pathologies. Men´s request of these surgeries has increased during the last years.

It is a surgery that can be performed during early ages, within variable opinions, starting off at 12 or 14 years old.

The current tendency is to be as least aggressive as possible on surgeries and to avoid the unnecessary osteotomies, but they are routine in some cases. It is necessary to assess the tip’s cartilages and the back of the nose to obtain the new nose’s harmony. The nose surgery produces edema and swelling for an average of five days, and gradually gets better making the labour and social reintegration possible in seven days. Normally, there is no pain, due to the use of a cast that gives comfort to the patient.

The use of a nasal plugs is necessary during 12 to 24 hours, even if it is not comfortable, to compress the structures and prevent a larger edema (swelling). Post-rhynoplasty care involves 21 days with no physical activities or sun exposure. The result observed on the nose after three to six months is the final result.

Current computational techniques, allow us to show the patients, through a digital picture, how their new nose would look on their face and the balance or facial harmony together with the forehead and chin.

It is necessary to evaluate the functional role of the nose, and if troubles exist the surgery will be executed by two specialists: the esthetic by the plastic surgeon and the functional by the otorhinolaryngologist.
