There are two types of benign pigmented lesions: endogens and exogens. Between the endogens we have the spots, nevus or moles, and those we already have when we are born. Between the second, exogens, are the tattoos: professional, artistic, traumatic (asphalt impregnation under the skin), and cosmetic (outlined). These lesions are treated with a combination of two or three laser systems; usually, we use a CO2 Laser with Neodimiun YAG.
Four to eight sessions, one every 21 days, are needed depending on the skin type and the location. When the laser is applied, the skin is burned to remove the pigment deposited natural or artificially, and this will be eliminated by the lymphatic way or through the skin. It is important to advise the patients that the pigments are not always removed successfully since the pigments are sometimes deposited in a deeper level than the habitual. It is a satisfactory therapeutic alternative for the management of these lesions.
The utilization of a laser for the elimination of tattoos is relatively recent and it provides very spectacular results. It can be applied on tattoos of different colors, something that using the other methods was not possible. It is a satisfactory therapeutic alternative for the management of these lesions. |
