This new technology, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), is a NON-ABLATIVE PHOTOREJUVENATION resource that allows us to treat cutaneous ageing symptoms in a simple, fast, effective, and safe way.
Cutaneous ageing is not only caused by the pass of the years, but also by the damage produced to skin by the solar light. This ageing is translated into cutaneous structure changes (multiple fine wrinkles, opaque and rough skin, dilated pores), pigment abnormalities (increase of spots produced by the solar light), and capillary troubles (telangiectasia, broken or dilated capillaries, rosacea, etc.) that currently, by the application of IPL technology, can easily be solved.
What is the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)?
It is a technology that permits correcting a multiple variety of dermatologic and cosmetic conditions. Intense Pulsed Light’s functioning principle is the Selective Photothermolysis: this light penetrates into the skin and works on the lesion under treatment, heating and destroying it in a few milliseconds. It is painless and does not produce adverse effects on healthy tissues. The IPL acts on the visible spectrum; it does not produce secondary effects since the cellular structure is not modified. Differently from laser equipments which have only one wave length, the IPL has various wave lengths and can be specifically programmed to treat a determined lesion.

How does Intense Pulsed Light work?
Before the treatment: Using the right IPL’s spectrum, light’s energy is applied non-invasively on the skin.
During the treatment: The light penetrates into the skin and acts over the lesion without damaging the epidermis.
After the treatment: The structures that we are willing to eliminate are fragmented and absorbed without damaging the adjacent tissue.
The skin’s surface is now softer and rejuvenated.

What is Epifacial?
The EPIFACIAL method is cutaneous rejuvenation’s integral treatment by Intense Pulsed Light. The light is transmitted through a small plain-surfaces crystal that is leaning on the skin’s surface. The light penetrates into the papillar dermis stimulating the formation of collagen and blood flow, which notably increases skin’s thickness and quality. Because IPL is a subdermic treatment, it does not damage the skin and it requires a very short recovery time.
How is the method?
Very easy: the eyes are protected with special glasses, a cold gel is placed in the zone under treatment, and a series of pulses is applied. It is recommended to perform from 5 to 6 sessions, depending on the cutaneous ageing degree. The sessions are carried out every 20 to 30 days and they last from 15 to 20 minutes each. The treatment is painless and the patient can return to normal activities immediately after each session.
Who is the right patient for this treatment?
This method can be applied to patients that have a moderate cutaneous ageing, produced either by the sun or ageing. This procedure can be performed on the neck, neckline, face, and at the dorse of hands.
Can this method produce adverse effects?
One of the main advantages of Epifacial method with respect to other treatments is that it does not need a recovery period, allowing the patient to return immediately to usual activity. In some cases an erythema can be seen, but it only lasts for some hours.
